I see it daily, during the commute to work, during my lunch break, even at my little local coffee shop. We as a universe speak a beautifully collective amount of languages. Perhaps more so than others, but yes, we are there Bilingualism.
Did you know that 56% of the population across all European Union countries reported being functionally bilingual?
When I was a child I attended an international boarding school, the best school in the world 'in my opinion anyway'. Summerhill was what you would call a parents heaven, in terms of language development. Think about it, 24/7 exposure and learning potential, without having to step foot in a classroom. No, I'm talking active learning here.
Que; Monkey's Melody, many people have asked me where I came up with the idea. Quite honestly it was simple. I fused two of the elements that I was good and passionate about together, Music and Childcare. In the beginning, I focused on the musical side. However, as I progressed through the classes I began to witness the children whose English wasn’t their first language, pick up on the lyrics of the songs first. Why? you ask rhythmical patterns.
"Developmentally appropriate music activities involve the whole child-the child's desire for language, the body's urge to move, the brain's attention to patterns, the ear's lead in initiating communication, the voice's response to sounds, as well as the eye-hand coordination associated with playing musical instruments"
